Women 4 Civic Change: Through Art

The Event

The Kqhubafrica x @xensonartspace workshop opened for Applications from emerging and young female artists.

Art is a tool that can be used in communities to communicate about the different challenges faced by a community or celebrate their wins, offer solutions, and also preserve their culture.

Uganda is one of the countries with the youngest population in the world; the youth comprise 70% of the population, the majority being female.
Through women empowerment, we believe that young and emerging female artists can be at the forefront of causing civic change through art.

#Women4Civic change through art program aimed at having young and emerging female artists at the forefront of addressing civic issues affecting their communities through art with the goal of creating change.

This was a 4-day workshop focused on female and young emerging artists in Uganda.

The workshop was engaging the artists to identify the different civic issues in their communities, debate about them, identify solutions, and be guided on how best they can use their art to communicate with their leaders and communities to bring about change.

All participants were required to be available for the 4 workshop days, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM. We had practical sessions as well during demonstrations. We worked with different experts in different fields.

The workshops culminated in an open exhibition where we invited key industry stakeholders to engage with the selected participant’s creations.
