The Poetry Leaders Dinner: An Exclusive Commune

The Event

Ushering in a decade marked by burgeoning creativity, Uganda’s poetry scene has witnessed remarkable growth. A symphony of poetic initiatives has resonated through the nation, igniting a fervor for verse and expression among the youth. Now, in a partnership between KQ and Kitara Nation, a poetic soirée is set to unfold – the Poets Dinner – a convivial gathering aimed at introspection and dialogue on poetry’s role in fostering societal consciousness and civic engagement in contemporary Uganda.

Rationale of the Dinner: Encompassing celebration and contemplation, the Poets Dinner has a dual purpose. First, it’s a celebration of the poets who have played a pivotal role in nurturing Uganda’s vibrant poetry culture. Second, it serves as a forum to deliberate on poetry’s significance in stirring civic participation across society’s diverse strata.

The Objective of the Dinner: Bridging minds and hearts, the dinner’s primary objective is to weave a tapestry of connections among poets. By facilitating dialogue on the present and future trajectory of Ugandan poetry, the event aims to invigorate perspectives and aspirations. Above all, it grants poets an invaluable platform to dissect poetry’s manifold roles in shaping society.

Themes for the Dinner: The event’s symposium will host a spectrum of voices, each spotlighting a distinct theme. “The role of Poetry in confidence building among the youth in schools today,” elucidated by Obed Obedgiu, echoes the transformative power of verse in nurturing self-assured future leaders. Hawa Kimbugwe will unveil “Poetry as a platform for a woman’s voice today,” unraveling poetry’s role in empowering and amplifying women’s narratives. Further, Mugay Gideon’s exploration of “Poetry and healing among refugee communities in Uganda” echoes the cathartic prowess of verse within displaced communities.

List of Poets & Their Affiliations: A constellation of poetic luminaries will grace the event, embodying Uganda’s diverse poetic landscape.

Among the male poets, leaders like Mickey the Poet, Mugay Gideon, Ian Ainebyoona, Hillary Balyejusa, and more, converge from various corners, united by their ardor for verse.
